I decided to install Ubuntu Mate This means it, I think, that it does not interfere in any way with the Windows installation except for the darned BIOS clock settings, but that can be fixed. So my computer automatically starts Windows and when at boot I want to start Ubuntu Mate I press F11 to select the right boot device.

Works like a charm. I tested the same SD card and the same reader under this installation and it just keeps on working. Several weeks of testing and it works flawlessly and keep testing it on Windows where it keeps randomly not recognizing the SD card as it did before My raspberry pi 1 and my Ubuntu None of them have this issue. Also unfortunately none of them have a removable SD card reader hardwaredevice, but since it does work under Ubuntu Mate So I concluded there is no other possibily then it being a Windows 10 issue or a corrupt installation.

I freshly installed Windows 10 with the same key and no third party drivers installed whatsoever nor third party software tested it for another week, but the problem remained. Therefore I cannot conclude anything else than it being a Windows 10 problem. When does it occur?

I am sorry for not responding for a long time. I have been a very busy person and needed to have my attention on a lot of other stuff, but that is all personal. I have tried all the above solution and with no result. I have now bought a USB3. But my “built in” still does not. I even tried one belonging to a friend of mine that fits in the same 3-something inch slot as mine, but again to no luck. I am completely out of ideas and puzzled by it.

But By now I will wave the white flag I give up. I have a working method now and not gonna put more energy in it, mostly because of the lack of time I will have from now on due to work and other personal stuff.
